Some essential password best practices
USE A PASSWORD MANAGER
We all know that we should create different passwords for each of our accounts. However, their proliferation makes management increasingly difficult. That's why password managers represent the optimal solution. They not only allow us to store our passwords but also generate new strong and complex ones, save our credentials and important documents, and monitor if some are threatened by security breaches.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PASSWORD, SOME BASIC RULES
- Choose a different password for each account;
- Silence is golden… Never share your passwords;
- Avoid obvious references to easily accessible personal information;
- Always include letters, numbers, and special characters;
- Use a password manager;
- Whenever possible, prioritize two-factor authentications;
- Twelve (12) characters are recommended for each passwords. Eight (8) characters when two-factor authentication is possible.
Tip!
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED A PASSPHRASE?
It's a clever way to create a password that is both strong and memorable. Include a special code for a known reference to add special characters.
Example:
Jo$h Scored 2
Goals At The Junior
Hockey Tournament In May
The password would be: J$S2GATJHTI5
